Poland’s R&D Growth and Patent Activity

Poland’s R&D investment reached 53.1 billion PLN in 2023, a significant 18.8% increase, representing 1.46% of GDP. Despite a 31% decline in patents granted in 2022, with 2,224 awarded to domestic entities, the country remains committed to fostering innovation and technological development.

Poland has demonstrated a commitment to innovation through increased research and development (R&D) expenditures and patent filings. In 2023, Poland’s gross domestic expenditure on R&D (GERD) amounted to 53.1 billion PLN, marking an 18.8% increase compared to the previous year. This expenditure represented 1.46% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) . In 2022, the Polish Patent Office granted 2,290 patents, with 2,224 of these awarded to domestic entities. This reflects a 31% decrease compared to the previous year.

Poland Investment in key sectors

Poland is boosting its technological and educational sectors with significant investments.
